The reason most jobs require a criminal background check is because the employee is in a “position of trust”. Obviously, having a criminal record, no matter what the offence, raises doubt in the eyes of an employer regarding the job applicant’s character.
Even if your charges were dismissed, stayed, withdrawn or absolute or conditionally discharged, a red flag will arise on a criminal background check which can jeapardize your chances of getting a job or promotion.
Even if your charges were 20 years old because of something stupid you did as a younger person, an employer will be less likely to hire you if they can hire a person of similar skill and background who does not have a criminal record.
The biggest reason people call us to help them obtain a Canada Pardon is to remove the old criminal record so that it will not show up in a criminal background search.
Here is a thank you letter we received from a client we helped to remove an old DUI and assault charge:
“Thank you Pardons Canada for helping me acquire a pardon for my criminal charges. The help was very much appreciated.”
“Working in a position of trust such as an accountant, I was very nervous about my employer finding out about my criminal record.”
“At any time over the past 8 years, my employer could have become aware of my criminal history and I would have been out of a job.”
“I definately feel more secure about my employment now that I have received my pardon.”
