There has recently been a flurry of news articles on the fact that criminal background checks continue to show charges that are withdrawn, dismissed, stayed and discharged, which negatively impacts the individual who is applying for a job or volunteering position.
The Civil Liberties Association released a report indicating how many people have been affected by this process and have lost jobs as a result.
At Pardons Canada, we receive hundreds of calls and emails each week from people who are desperate to remove their criminal record as it gets in the way of employment, volunteering and traveling. Many are shocked, that even if their criminal charges were thrown out of court, they are still showing up on a criminal background check.
