Many people who are charged with a DUI are surprised at the cost.  Fines, legal fees, insurance, rehabilitation costs and other miscellaneous expenses can add up to tens of thousands of dollars.

In addition to a heavy financial cost, there is aslo a risk of losing employment opportunities or having difficulty with travel.

Thankfully, our country gives us a second chance by way of a Canada Pardon.  Once the charge is removed with a pardon, it will no longer show up on a criminal background check.  You will then be safe for work and travel purposes.

Here is an email we recently received from someone who is seeking to obtain a Pardon for a recent DUI:

“I plead guilty to an over 80 charge (Impaired charge was removed) on September 16th, 2010 so I could reduce my driving penalty to 3 months with a 9 month interlock device.  I was originally charged on October 22, 2008. ”

“I do travel extensively throughout the US for my work, it so far has not been an issue, but I do hold my breath every time I cross (it hasn’t been long since my guilty plea – and that may have something to do with the fact it has not come up…yet). ”

“This obviously is a relatively new charge so I’m wondering if there is something that can be done so early from a pardons perspective.  This mistake has caused me to appear in court 9 times, $12000 in legal fees, denial of Nexus, assessment and rehab requirements, immediate loss of license for 90 days at time of the charge, another 90 reduced suspension, 9 month interlock period, install, rental and de-install of the device for a total of about $1500, $1300 fine and a criminal record – not to mention unforeseen insurance hikes and employment limit.”
