If you are thinking of applying for NEXUS and have ever been charged by the police, make sure you get a file destruction, pardon or record suspension before making the application.
We have received many distressed calls from people who did not think their old charge would show up, and next thing they know, the NEXUS is denied and in some cases, the Americans will not allow the person to return to the US without a Waiver.
The good news is that once a pardon/record suspension is granted, then the criminal record will not show up when the Americans do a criminal check for the NEXUS application.
If you have been fingerprinted but the charges were withdrawn, stayed, dismissed, peace bond, diversion, absolute or conditional discharge, then you should apply for a file destruction prior to applying for NEXUS.
Here is the most recent news directly from NEXUS:

NEXUS members travelling through Vancouver International Airport’s domestic north checkpoint may notice a new procedure for validating NEXUS cards. CATSA is piloting an eGate that will verify your membership card and boarding pass electronically.
The eGate is positioned at the front of the Trusted Traveller screening line. It uses a touch screen that will prompt you to scan your boarding pass and NEXUS card to gain access to the screening area.
