There are many lives that have been negatively affected as a result of the new Omnibus Crime Bill C10. The change in Pardons legislation in making people wait longer to recieve a pardon (now termed “record suspension”) has put thousands of lives on hold. Effectively, delaying their opportunity to get jobs or travel to the US.
At Pardons Canada we are committed to helping people remove old criminal records whether by way of a pardon, record suspension, file destruction and obtain US Entry Waivers so they can move forward with their lives.
Here is an email we recently received from a distraught individual who was affected by the change in laws from Bill C10:
“I became eligible for a pardon last September of 2011 (6 months ago). It takes some time to contact agencies involved and wait for them to send back the completed forms.”
“Imagine my shock when I find out Bill C-10 is pushed through and my application was getting ready to be sent.”
“I was only a couple weeks too late… and now I have to wait another 5 years!”
“It has been about ten years since my charges (Sept.2001) for growing some marijuana plants. It took a couple years to be sentenced (Sept.2003) and then 6 years later (Sept.2009) my pardon application was rejected because of a $100 surcharge that wasn’t paid, I had to wait another two years to apply. (Sept.2011).”
“I have been working as a respected professional with many responsibilities for over 10 years since that charge.”
“I can’t believe I will have another five years added I feel like I’m living in a nightmare. By the time I get my name cleared I will have had a police record for 15 years. ”
“I have already lost out on many opportunities (both travel and work) that would have improved my life because of this record.”
“It seems I will never be forgiven by this government, even though I have completed university in aircraft engineering, become an aircraft inspector, been law abiding, tax paying citizen since that charge over 10 years ago.”
“I’m a perfect example of how people change their lives for the better and learn from their mistakes.”
“Bill C-10 is unfair and hinders many of those who deserve the right for personal growth and to better themselves.”
