Assault is probably the most common criminal charge in Canada. If the police are called to the scene of the fight, they will charge someone regardless of whether the victim wishes to drop the charge immediately.
Once you are fingerprinted, your name is in the system and can be seen in a criminal background check. Even if the charges were dismissed, withdrawn, stayed, absolute or conditional discharged.
When your name comes up in a criminal background check you can lose job and travel opportunities.
Once a Pardon is granted, your criminal charge will be removed from the system and you will be safe for work and travel opportunities.
