In an effort to be “tough on crime” the Tories are proposing changes to the Pardons legislation that could make it more expensive to obtain a Canada Pardon and more difficult to obtain one. Bill C23 B is the bill being proposed in the legislature.
The reason many people wish to obtain a Canada Pardon is because they are trying to get work and every employer in the country is currently requesting criminal checks before hiring a new employee. These will be the people most affected by the possible price hike as they are eager to get back to work but require a Pardon to do so which costs more money than in the past.
The act of forgiveness through a Canada Pardon is written in our Constitutional Bill of Rights and we are fortunate that our country gives us a second chance. Thankfully, the program will continue to remain in place and though it may become more arduous and expensive, it remains an important step and allowing Canadian citizens to have their life and freedom back.
