Visitor:  I have a peace bond that shows on my vulnerable sector police check and being in the nursing profession is stopping me from gaining employment. It has been on since March 20 2023 and is for a year…I need to get back to work as it is causing me to be depressed. This peace bond came about after false allegations from my ex boyfriend who I do not speak to wanted me out of his house one day and the police charged me with alleged assault. I did not get a lawyer and was ok with peace bond as we do not speak and have moved on. Unaware that it would interfere with my job. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Pardons Canada:  A peace bond for assault is a good outcome in court as its considered a non-conviction.  However, since you were fingerprinted by the police it will still show up on a criminal check and on the vulnerable sector.  You will need to apply for a file destruction which will remove the prints.  Once approved, you can ask the police to remove you from the vulnerable sector.
