Pardons Canada: How to Remove a Theft Over $5000 offence
Visitor: I’m looking to have an arrest record destroyed. Long story shot, I was charged with theft for passing the cash register in a grocery store…..however I was just going to get an item located between the doors. I’m completely innocent thus was not theft…..nonetheless I was charged. The police officer said he believed me but had to charge me?!? Doesnt make much sense but that’s what happened. The charges were withdrawn and my lawyer said he applied to have pics and prints destroyed. I’ve now learned the arresting record can be destroyed. I’m very interested in having this done as again I’m completely innocent and I hate the fact there is any record at all. I’m worried it will pop up if I go across the US border etc. Is this something you can help with?
Pardons Canada: We canot remove internal arrest records as the police are allowed to keep those for a time frame of their choosing in case you get into trouble again. The arrest record is not available for public viewing and if your fingerprints were removed then you are clear on a criminal check or CPIC.
