When people call our anonymous phone line about wanting their criminal record removed with a Canada Pardon, we are often the only ones they have shared this information with.
Often, people are ashamed, embarassed, fearful, sad or angry about having a criminal record and have therefore kept it a secret from their loved ones and friends. Keeping this a secret can be very painful emotionally.
Once a Pardon is granted and the criminal record is removed, the relief of this burden can be incredible and sometimes life altering.
Here is a letter we recently received from a person who we helped to get a Canada Pardon:
“..I left a very good job, and my home to move to another province. In the last 18 years since this happened, I was so ashamed, I told no one, not even my husband or my friends. I was living a lie.”
“But I don’t have to live a lie any more. It has been like a huge weight has been lifted.”
“I can now live my life and not have to be afraid of what is coming next.”
