Pardons Canada: Can I Travel to the US with an Assault Conviction?
Visitor: My first charge was in Nova Scotia, trespassing in 1988. Second and third criminal offences were in London, Ont.. 1997 & 2000. I did hit my wife back and was given probation. The second time was a kick in bum, which we did to each other in a friendly way…..but because I lost my temper, they say that counted it as assault. I was given probation again & we still lived together…My life back then was with a woman who had issues that just kept getting worse. She finally went for treatment and found she is bipolar. We separated in 2006 when she was cheating, wanted her old life back.
Life has been good and we do see each other. I just feel that I have been punished enough. I did do Caring Dad’s, an Anger management course, saw a shrink, worked with C.A.S. – Merry Mount – Wrap Around & a few other places so I’ve definitely rehabilitated. All programs were closed due to my ex not following the plans they had placed to make life easier, with 3 young boys. I’d like to be a free man who can travel word wide like to Japan at least once.
Pardons Canada: One pardon or record suspension will remove all three of your assault offences and since you have been out of trouble since 2000 then you are definitely eligible for the pardon. Once the pardon is granted for the assault offences it will no longer show up on a criminal check and you will be a free person without any worry of your past coming back to haunt you.
