Visitor: I am looking at travelling to the United States in July. I have never had any issues travelling to the United States in the past.
In 2020 I entered into a peace bond which stated I was to stay 15 feet apart from an individual.
My ex spouse and his current common law partner were constantly taking in false claims against me for months to the local RCMP.
I had no knowledge this was happening.
I was shocked when I was told I had criminal harassment charges against me.
To prevent thousands of dollars in lawyers and an unnecessary trial I entered into a peace bond. At which time after speaking to a lawyer he indicated travelling to the USA would not be a problem.
How do I know if this peace bond will affect my ability to cross into the USA?
Pardons Canada: The Americans are usually concerned with more serious offences but many don’t know what a peace bond means so they assume the worst. Its best to get a file destruction to remove your prints and police reports so that in the future when traveling to the US, the border officers will not see anything on your file.
